Route Spotlight: The Imaginator

By Ben Williams

The brutal summer sun is upon us, and all but the most fervent Red Rock enthusiasts are taking shelter in the rock gym, have vacated southern Nevada, or have shifted their efforts to Mt Charleston’s limestone routes. As such, this month’s route can be found on the north-facing Imagination Wall of Mt Charleston’s Kyle Canyon.

The Imaginator offers three pitches of 5.11 bolted climbing in a brilliant setting, on mostly good rock. Even though you’ll only need a 70-meter rope and 20 quickdraws, don’t expect a trivial clip-up route; be prepared for solid grades, a little loose rock, and a spicy section on the second pitch. Consult the guidebook “Islands in the Sky” for more information about this route, and others, on the Imagination Wall.
